What is Advanced Communication Technology?
Advanced Communication Technology can be described as an effective, proficient, efficient, accurate, timely, and wide spread way to stay connected.
Today we can attach files, pull from a cloud and link and sync all of our communication devices. We can use our Laptops, Desktops, Smart Phones, Office Phones, Home Phones, Tablets, or even our Nook Reader to stay tuned in, never missing a beat.
Interaction of communications today isn’t just through our phone calls and voicemail, but includes Text Messages, Instant Messages, Emails, FaceBook, Twitter, LinkedIn and many other communication media outlets, not to mention use of our household devices like our televisions and DVDs. When it comes down to it, it is much harder to disconnect than to stay connected.
What Effect Does This Have On You and Your Business?
In my Business Consulting world, communicating with state of the art technical tools for the “Up To Date” Professional has become an OVERWHELMING and out of control DISTRACTION. This can and does cause ineffectiveness, inefficiencies, slower production, lack of focus, meeting interruptions, automobile accidents, bumping into people and objects while walking, overstress, out of control schedules, and spending longer unorganized hours solving issues.
Are we finding our day more difficult to focus on details and being proactive? Are we focused on the task at hand? Are we driven by the need to react, essentially disrupting productivity and risk putting our day’s tasks in a tail spin?
What Does The Future Hold?
Advanced Communication Technology within our companies, is and will, continue to be a major line item in business definition. It is now factored into Employment Advertising, Resumes, Employment Agreements, Job Descriptions, Budgets, Timelines and the bottom line. Think about communicating 2 years ago and now project forward 2 years, 5 years or even 10 years ahead. These technology advancements will continue to develop at an accelerated pace. Consider how different you and your business will communicate in 2 years.
Can we continue to react, or do we capitalize taking control and creating disciplines within our business and professional world?

Let’s consider that you have a great product or provide a service in high demand. Your marketing campaign is top of the line and you are reaching your target market creating a “Call to Action” from the customer or end user.
Back at your place of business there are a variety of frustrations such as inventory shortage, employee absence, poor communication among staff, delivery schedules behind, shipping or delivery is late, the boss is distracted with insurance renewals, a computer is down, the budgets aren’t done, brochures are outdated, or there is simply a chaotic state within the organization.
Many businesses suffer even when having great products or provide a high demand service and find their organization structure prevents them from “delivering the goods”
Think of a good law firm generating many new clients and finding out they can’t get the work completed due to lack of production capabilities.
Have you been to the grocery store to find the checkout line is too long, there is no one to help find something, and getting 1 pound of turkey sliced at the deli takes forever?
Have you called for a repairman and told they can’t get to you for a week?
Think of the automobile dealership waiting for parts from the manufacturer to repair a warranty item.
These scenarios are examples of not having a good organization structure to support company success.
A company wanting to succeed should review their internal operation often to be sure they can meet the demands of the customer and provide that positive experience in a competitive market. A well run organization with well trained employees, solid inventory control, regular meetings and communication, alternative and backup solutions to anticipated problems, developing time lines with your projects and following a prepared budget that works are some tools for running a good organization from within.

The World of Economics as we know it has changed and is being redefined. As business owners and entrepreneurs who are affected by this changing World of Economics, we should be prepared to adjust to meet those changes.
Take a snapshot of your business and look at the “AS IS”. This is necessary to define the adjustments and changes required to meet the demands of our changing World of Economics.
It is time to review and define alternative sources of income related to your business.
Consider looking at alternative sources for increasing sales or the distribution of products or services.
Now is the time to change and adjust to meet the demands of economic change such as: re organize, re negotiate, alter relationships, change obligations, adjust bank structure, revise leases or update contracts.
Part of re defining the world of Economics is caused by the end user of products and services. End users have created the need to review and revise branding and marketing to improve a business’s marketing reach.
Keep in mind large businesses are making the adjustments and changes to meet our new economic challenges.
We as business owners of small business should do the same.
I am glad that you took the time to read these comments and I encourage all Business Owners to continue dedicating time to review and understand the economic changes around you and prepare to make the necessary adjustments to continue to succeed and grow your business.

Business Owners know common areas of concern such as Budgeting, Marketing, Customer Service, Inventory, Sales and Profit.
Many Business Owners overlook one of the most important ingredients for success. Owners really don’t know their employees; and employees really don’t know the Company.
Consider the business personality of people. To know an employee we think of their general personality, their life style, how they dress, communicate, and their performance.
For an employee to know the company, one will consider salary, benefits, security, work environment, job description and company goals.
Let’s get deeper and ask:
- Do you really know the people you rely on to make your business work?
- Do the people you rely on really know what they are responsible for?
- Do the people you rely on really know what they are accountable for?
- Do the people you rely on really know how their talent, effort, and production are expected to contribute to the bottom line?
- Do the people you rely on really know your specific plans for short term and long term goals?
For the Business Owner and their employees to really know each other involves precise and specific disciplines communicated throughout the organization. Having specific job descriptions, performance measurements, reviews, and goal setting is a company discipline that can make a difference.
A Business Owner really has to know his company and employees are on the same page.
I am glad that you took time to read these comments and I encourage all Business Owners to continue dedicating time to Know your employees.
